Hardware recomendation.
« on: January 27, 2013, 09:27:19 PM »
Morning GUYs,

today I unpacked my 2 17" touch panels.  :P and started to play with them...

So now I got some good qustions for YOU guys.

What hardware do you recomend.

I would like to:
- watch movies
- listen to my mp3 files
- listen to digital and to FM
- also want ot pair my phone with it (bluetooth)
- use a HSDPA data connection for www.di.fm or mail/skype.
- also will connect a printer
- and use MsOffice on this machine.
- also there will be a SSH tunnel to my company network to print and recieve files at home or local.

this machine will be conected to a second battri, wihtout the load of the starting engine, but with the load of the DC-AC converter in my trucks back (MB-Sprinter) (there will be the printer and the second touch panel with keyboard and mouse.)

bluetooth mouse and keyboard will be used as well.

there will bi 2 equal touch panels in mirror mode conected, both with the old 15 pin vga cable and usb touch connector.

So i would need:

-power supply for 12V both touch panels running on 12 V!!
-mainboard with 2 VGA/DVI connectors and lots of USB ports
-RAM
-Bluetooth dongle
-HSDPA modem
-DAB dongle + antenna
-FM dongle + connector for car antenna
-SSD Drive or hdd in shock absorbing cartridge
-USB Extension, to plug a USB Stick from the drivers-place.
-3 USB Cams for death spots right and left and trailer conector

did i miss something?
what models do you recomend with win7 and FI?

How about a booster for the sound? i would like to trash my old MB Music device, its so trashy...  :-X also got no aux in just a tape deck to plug an aux to tape system. but thats crapie, isnt it?

kinde regards

1st off i would say go here it will answer 90% of your questions

http://linitx.com/

theres pretty much everything you need to with car pc devices and such

freeice supports some of your wish's , the rest very much doubt it ,

watch moviesyep
- listen to my mp3 filesooo yes
- listen to digital and to FMVenice5 dab and dabmonkey boards are supported
- also want ot pair my phone with it (bluetooth)
Andriod only supported at present

this machine will be conected to a second battri, wihtout the load of the starting engine,
very much recomend a stinger split charge relay , if not aready got on e

if you get yourself a dabmonkey board this will give you dab if in europe and fm ,, so no need
for the second dongle

to boost sound between pc and amp , you could look at a simple pre amp, eq very small and neat ,
i use to use 1 , (may still have it) allowed 2 aux in, and 3 out , which my amp has seperate freq input rca , so the 3 out were used as high ,mid, low in on amp ,,,

hope this helps you out a bit

oh, oh, yea it did indeed answer some qustions.

so i searched a bit on the net...

how about this board?

It got most of what i need on board:
http://linitx.com/product/13697

i would need a power source, i found this, its a 12v DC 120W PSU:
http://www.ddcom24.de/shop/artikel_artikel_4006_kategorie_651_name_picoPSU-120-120W-12V-DC-DC-AX-Netzteil.html

then i would need some RAM and a SSD, but thats not realy importand.... most avialable will funktion.

is this the dabmonkey board you mentioned?
http://www.cartft.com/catalog/il/1618/?utm_source=Pangora&utm_medium=CPC

and this would be a suitable amplifiere, i guess
http://www.amazon.de/Magnat-Black-Core-Four-Auto-HiFi-Verst%C3%A4rker/dp/B002AV0HD2/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

i just will need some speakers able to hold on with the magnat *g*

i guess there will be some funny looking people on the van-festival in UK this year *g* (at least if i get this finished till then)

final qustion, where do you guys get your pc case from?

built it your self, or is there a good stor for passiv cooled miniITX board cases?

edit: dont need anny fancy stuff, will be stored under the left front seat, nobody will ever see it, but i dont like cable salad, so a box with all the external conectors on it, would be apreciated.

edit: also was wondering how to control the amplifier, i could use the 12v signal form the mini ITX PSU to switch it on and of, do you use it that way?

thx

and kinde regards.

looks ok ,, just make sure that psu is for that board

as for cases, i don't even use 1 , everything is bolted under drivers seat , , free to stay cool
i would say most build thier own ,, have a look at mp3car.com,, for case's or ebay

Ah, I did some more research.... 8)

and I change my mind. but f**k this pc will be expensive. heading stright for >1.000,00 EUR  :o

I found:

180 EUR Mainboard: ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe, Sockel 1155, ITX
http://www.reichelt.de/Mainboard-Sockel-1155/ASUS-P8Z77-IDEL/3/index.html?;ACTION=3;LA=5;ARTICLE=121197;GROUPID=4876;artnr=ASUS+P8Z77-IDEL;SID=12UQ@wQX8AAAIAAHXfYDY4d0ef9ea4c02950744108be2b8c5c620

(311 EUR) I am still uncertain about the processor, may be an Intel Ivy something or a maybe Intel Core i7 2600K, but i like the Ivy Intel Core i7-3770K Prozessor (3,5GHz, L3 Cache, Sockel 1155)  more, but 311 EUR for one CPU, my godness, thats a mountain of cash for some ittybitty bit of a chip.

I am also still uncertain about cooling and RAM. Watercooling drops out for 90% because of freezing temps in Car.

40 EUR I guess this cooling would be the right one its just 58mm high, and the case will be 62 so i need cut the case open and make a "fan cover" on it
http://preisvergleich.hardwareluxx.de/732330

45 EUR And this would be the RAM moduls:
http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/8gb+corsair+vengeance+low+profile+kit+weiss+cl9+ddr3+1600?refcampaign_id=8f14e45fceea167a5a36dedd4bea2543

50 EUR (inlk. the second SSD holder) I found a nice case, smal eneouh for under driver seat installation in a VW T3 Vanagon
http://www.techcase.de/popup_image.php?pID=1138284&image=0&xploidID=b9l4609rqnirj56iiq4qvkk5g0

90 EUR I also found a 250W PSU for direct in car use, wide range input 6-32V. It is powerfull enough to power the touch panels also.
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B005NI8L1E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A21ISB9LUWIYXR

60 EUR Then there is the external GPS Antenna with its cable harness:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B001ENYWJC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A21ISB9LUWIYXR

DAB Monkey for about 90 EUR

Now its 965 EUR.

And still
-no hdd/ssd
-no amplifier
-no speakers
-no cable harsesses
-no external WiFi aerial
-no external DAB aerial

so far, so good.

Tomorrow i start odering, but befor i will need to have a chat with a pc specialist... *g*

Greetings Manne

i'll keep you posted!

this project can be as exspensive or as cheap as YOU want it to be

i use a intel board , with a quad on it , but thats me ,, dose not have to be , yes the board dose need to be good , as we are flash based aswell as .net ..

but i have run freeice of a atom netbook before , for testing , most boards we use are fan cooled , you can buy , quiter and smaller in hieght fans

but because by the sounds have nothing yes it dose seem exspensive ,,, what i would say 1st off , make sure this is what you want, dose everything you require to a point,, play on your desk top...

before spending to much ,,

if you have a headunit that has aux in , perfect just connect a lappy or your build to it , bingo cheap system to test with ......

your list is pretty much a complete one , but you forget screen and gps mouse,,,
cables, leads,, possiable 2nd battery the list is endless in this project , but the end line is were you draw it

hi carputer1

thx for the feedback.

im going to work with this machine, every day. so i want it fast, and i want it nice.

right now i do it with a laptop. and its so messy, all the cable, all that bending for the keyboard. i hate it.

freeice will be the frontend for driving. (music, phone, navigation)

for the rest, i will use it as a win 7 machine with all the office and network features.

thats why i diecides to go for the biggest mini-itx board, an ivy processor and 8gb of ram.

This machine will be fit for gaming... so i guess, DVD and feeice and a bit of office use, woud not load it to the max.

CU

boys and thier toys lolololll..

there are ready built sys, which are now dual core, etc etc ,,
mp3 do them and loads of others ,, worth researching alot , because the main exspense
i have a shed load of stuff i have got over the years , hence thats why im where i am now ,, if i totaled my whole sys in the truck now

most likely be around 5000 , with no help fitting , just imagine the labour cost lol...
i won't actually point you to device or board etc , i have brought stuff on others say so , and its been no good ,
you know what you want from the sys ,
what i will say when it comes to navi don't buy a package if you can help it , ie.. software and gps mouse
it has been found that the mouse's are no good with other software , not always the case but has been known ...

we'll help you all the way , but most will be down to you

ah jea, your right.

I thought bout this GPS device

http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B001ENYWJC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A21ISB9LUWIYXR

its an external GPS receiver for mounting on the roof, I think this will be best solution for an excellent signal to noise ratio.

also I got an GPS mouse with bluetooth, I used it for my old tom-tom on my PDA, its out of use since years, but it tested it, its still OK, just the battery is bad, but that's unimportant, since its going to work only in the car.
