Title: FreeICE: Beta 2 Release
Post by: CdRsKuLL on September 16, 2012, 01:07:30 PM
[There is currently a bug in beta 2 which affects Win7 64bit. We are working on a fix at the moment]

FreeICE has now reached beta 2 release standard. This means most of the stuff is working and there shouldn't really be any bugs. It's a full suite from a music / video player. Embedded GPS and apps, radio.. all for incar use.

### UPDATE ###

I've found a bug in the weather update not grabbing the weather icons from your area. I've fixed this now so download the attached plugin update and drop it over the original one. :-) The folder your looking for is.. C:\CdRsKuLL Productions\FreeICE\Plugins\PluginINet

### UPDATE ###

FreeICE goes Dual Screen :-)

GRAB the 2 screen skin below
http://www.freeice.co.uk/software/2_screens.zip (http://www.freeice.co.uk/software/2_screens.zip)

Please try this... You will need to be running both screens at 800 x 600.. or one big one for testing :-)

How to use...
1. Install Beta 2 version.
2. Go into the skins folder and Copy the 'default' folder and name it 'defaultx2'.
3. Download the attached zip and extract the two files into the new default2 folder. It should ask you if you want to overwrite. Select yes.
4. In settings.ini in the FreeICE root change the skin name and also the position.
### skin that is loaded
skinname=defaultx2
### position of player if not fullscreen top, left, width, height
position=0,0,1600,600

It's near the top.

That's it :-) now, I've only added a couple of test buttons. On the media player you have a '2nd' button that sends the vis box or video over to the second screen. Also on the gps screen you have a '2nd' button that sends gps over to the second screen.

Let me know what you think :-)

Steve

It's available in the download section.

:-) woot any problems please let me know.

How to configure DABmonkey plugin

Start FI up, goto the settings screen (click the silve spanner box on the main page)
Click on radio on the left and choose DABmonkey and set your com port :-)

How to configure Gmail notification

Open up settings.ini in the main freeice folder and at the bottom add your username and password.
You username do not include the @gmail.com so if you are bob@gmail.com then your username is bob

Let me know how you get on.

Aso in this release is support for

Enforcers new FITrafficcams (not on general release , alpha testing only)
Google weather has been fixed
Radio has had a big overhaul , resume now works as well.

Also new features around this site,,

On main forum page there are now a Faq's section this contains some How too's , and a hardware or anything else review threads.
and as per normal we have the FreeICE tracker , for all your issues and requests,,
sorry that some rquests have not made this release but are in thought..

Thanks,

FI Crew

Important
if you have downloaded ibass plugin, and installed ,, please goto your settings.ini found in FreeICE root.
change a setting so you can use FreeICE default ..

externalplayer=true,ibass       to    externalplayer=false

save and restart and enjoy

Did you remove the previous version first ? also did you make sure any folders left were also deleted ?

Can you please try deleting the folders then trying again,

thanks,

Hi Steve,
for me Beta 2 works great on Windows 7 X86.
The only thing that doesn`t work is rebuilding database.
If I klick on the magnifying glass button and then on rebuild button - "rebuilding database...please wait" pops up but nothing happens.
Beta 1 - same problem - on alpha 12 the database thing works great!

Hi, have you set your music path ? Press and hold the music icon on the browser and it should set your path and also start the DB scan running... let me know :-)

did you actually set the music path 1st ,,,
press the disc to get drive list , navigate to music
press & hold music note..
db is now set to auto build , when path saved
Title: Re: FreeICE: Beta 2 Release
Post by: marlo on September 16, 2012, 08:27:59 PM
music path is saved it is D:\MUSIK\
If I klick on the music note button I am in my music folder but the title bar of the browser shows 0 tracks.
Searching for genre or artist doesn`t work too- of course.

open plugins/plugindatabase

delete the freeice.mdb file

just to test , restart fi ,, and go through the save path method ,,
if you have a big music folder , this can take a 1 min or so to kick in ,,

What is require to run FreeIce?

I'm getting error trying to run it.

Win7 64bit, latest Flash.

after deleteing freeice.mdb file there are 100000 tracks instead of 0 tracks shown in the top bar of the browser.
That is the only difference - rebuilding database not working.

I will install alpha 12 tomorrow then looking in plugin folder and trying to copy the database plugin to beta 2.
I hope this is possible?!

testing with windows xp i've tested the music database and functions (search rate) and it's working
on windows 7 64bit i've:
- deleted the old one (unistalled) then deleted the remain folder, and then installed the new version, no work
- so i have unistalled the new version, deleted the remaining folder, rebooted, reinstalled..but same problem

The problem is that no errors appear and so no debug that i can check

getting same issue as bebopblues, win7 x64 (domained)

tried running as administrator, with & without elevated privileges, old version removed and no folders remain under cdr productions. installs fine, but cannot run FIb2

Have you tried running it in compatibility mode by any chance ? I run x86 here and dont have a machine running 64bit.

Just out of interest, delete the DABmonkey plugin folder (well move it to your desktop) and see if it starts up then. That's compiled to run an a x86 machine which might be causing the problems on 64bit.

let me know.

Hi Steve,
overwriting freeice.mdb file doesn`t make any difference.
Saving music path done - massage "rebuilding database ... please wait" pops up but titlebar of the browser still shows 0 tracks.
Searching for genre,artist... don`t work.
Setting a track as favorite (stars) ...don`t work.

Windows 7 X86
newest Windows updates,newest flash player

ok so you don't think we are ignoreing you

i have just done a complete clean out of Freeice , on 3 sys's
so i had nothing to do with freeice on any of the sys's
used installer from dl section,,
all installed , database built

now admit this is on 32 bit sys's i don't have a 64bit w7 to test on,,,

but at least we now know it is a 64bit issue , not a all round issue ...
the search goes on

Can you enable debug mode in the settings.ini I think its somewhere near the bottom and then run FI. It should create a debug.txt file in FI's root. IF it does can you post it up please.

thanks,

Steve

Have ago at what Sean said :-) but failing that can your try the two test.exe's I've put in this zip folder.

http://www.freeice.co.uk/test/FreeICE.zip (http://www.freeice.co.uk/test/FreeICE.zip)

I think it might have something to do with permissions, more specifically writing to the register. The first one I set a path, but the second one I remover the actual write.

Let me know.

Thanks,

Steve

I don't know.. lol the part timers ;-)

Well, whilst we ALL wait for him to get up again.. I thought I would re-write the DABmonkey plugin. I've finished off a new version which works on a different thread.. in simple terms...

Man and a women in a house...

it was single threaded... which means
Man does cleaning and runs out of cleaning stuff so sends wife to the shops to buy some new stuff. Whilst she's out he does f'all until she gets back then he carries on. (when FI was waiting for the DAB to reply it didn't do anything)

now it's  multi threaded.. which means
Woman does cleaning and runs out of cleaning stuff so sends husband to the shops to buy some new stuff. Whilst he's away the wife empty's the dishwasher and cuts the grass, when he gets back she carries on. (FI now carries on and doesn't wait for the DAB)

Result - A faster plugin :-) which doesnt hamper FI's speed.

lol Steve

what we found was a compile error , the parameters were set for any cpu
so its was looking for a 64 wmp wrapper , when there isn't one,,

hopefully this will fix you guys,, if so this will become the B3 offical release...

@epect , yes please bud
@ steve ,, did you change the path save auto build db ,,

Turn shuffle on, after 2 songs the meant to be highlighted song playing, isn't highlighted any more, the title at the top is correct. Remove shuffle, after 2 songs the selected song is highlighted.
Issue with beta 2 on xp, working with the latest b2x64 :)

Shuffle selection isn't remembered on exit :) I know I keep coming back to this
Still resides in b2x64

I will do some more testing in the next few hours :)

Appreciate all the hard work guys, it must have been a tense few days with the x64 stuff

I have a plugin query which I will post in it's relevant thread.

External visuals still don't display in FI but display in wmp fine

Saving a playlist works, but recalling said playlist freezes FI

Might as well keep post whoring,

Weather won't display or update after setting location, I know that it may work using gps coordinates, but I have no gps module on my test laptop.

Dimmer will work if dragging the slider up to say 95%, but if from 0 slide it to 100% it doesn't change, u have to slide it anywhere from 0-95% before u can drag it to 100%.
On FI exit, can the dimmer be reset to whatever was set before adjusting? Retains original setting and recalls it on exit? Maybe have a tick box to remember?!?
After FI has been exited and then started again, viewing dimmer, it is set at 0%, so u can't tell what it's set at currently to adjust higher or lower.

2 weather icons and both don't work, assume 2 pointers to the same reference in settings.ini

Repeat setting turned on, it takes kinda waits for something when the song ends, sometimes it will start the song again, sometimes it won't, no wait, it's frozen again.

FI is currently using 50% CPU and 209mb memory usage only playing a song
 core 2 duo 2.53ghz
8th ram

Not a slow pc, but currently resource hungry, I'm watching the memory slowly climb up roughly 500k a sec

thanks for the reports ephect

your cpu is a bit strange ,, i just vnc'd home ,,

running fi ,, with mp3 playing ,,,
on main menu yes , its a bit high for me ,,but no more than 15 - 20%
goto media screen drops to 10% visuals running
goto browser drops to 5%
stop music running at 2 - 3%

cpu does spike when changeing screens ,,
i think the reason that most pi's are disable , is the skin folder had no plyugins.xml ,, so it was loading all pi's , its back in the installer you tested i hope ...

i disabled all pi's i have installed ,, inc enforcers 2, and our ibass , only leaving fi's database and gweather
main menu cpu dropped to 10 - 15%
so removed all pi's and slowly added back 1 by 1 , restarting fi every time i add a pi back

the only increase cpu was from enforcers 2 and the gmail pi's but the increase was hardly worth knowing about 2 - 4 % but i think these 3 scan internet on start up ,, evrything settles again after a few minutes

so my average is 8 - 17% ... so no where near you margin

for the weather icons yes confirmed here to ,,,,
as for dimmer can't not confirm ,, due to not being able to see via vnc

Evening peeps..

Well I've hopefully improved the weatherplugin now :-) I've also rewote the DAB plugin. Did some skin fixes so we are getting there.

Ephect - The reason is doesnt save the random list is because it generates a new list when you press the random button, this would also need saving and then reloading. I will have a look at this when I get chance.

I've done some CPU tests and I'm running between 10 - 20 % most of the time and this is on a i5 ultrabook thing. So it shouldn't be to bad. I will once we have a stable version again see what tweaks I can make. I might need to recode some of the plugins if they are found to be a hog.

Should have the next release ready soon :-) The 64bit bug has thrown me a little and I need to get back on track.

Yea no worries, I will test a couple of pcs today and get back to U with CPU results. I know the last few versions didn't have this issue so I was a little perplexed.

with the shuffle
When adding songs to the playlist, does the list get saved once U add the songs or dies it get saved on exit? What if the list gets saved during the creation and if shuffle is selected or dwselected. This shouldn't delay shutdown times and shouldn't affect things too much during selecting more songs. Just a thought. I don't know how its coded and if its a bitch to di :)

Will have more results later.

well it was one of those days today and i didnt get to run FI at all, but just running it now, and FI is sitting round 10-15% CPU and only jumping up to 29% when changing screens so who knows wtf was going on yesterday.

anyway good morning :)

Agh yes, I remember now. Will do some more testing tomorrow.
One thing, I dont have a dab unit so I can't test radio, but everything else is fair game

I've noticed this too.. it seems to happen after a long minimise. I can code round it but never done it.. lol

Maybe beta 3.. maybe not. Been working long days at work lately so not had chance to do what I wanted.

Still... will have another few hours on FI tonight to try and get ready for release of beta3 this weekend hopefully. :-)

Can some one please confirm this one for me.

App 3 & 4  aren't responding to the name and path set.
I tried setting another gps app to app3. Nothing loaded on press. So I set it to app4, ran FI pressed app4 and notepad opens and embeds.

Haven't tried app5. I can post my lines in settings.ini if needed. No ### in front of it.
Title: Re: FreeICE: Beta 2 Release

my last test was on XP incar

Fresh install of FI on x64 (new carpc in build), nothing touched in settings added app 4&5 to home screen, app 3 loads nothing, app 4 loads notepad. Again don't know why but didn't test app 5. Tried setting an app on both in settings and no go.

Something somewhere app 4 is pulling notepad.

Carry on :)

you are useing apps.xml in skin folder ?
Title: Re: FreeICE: Beta 2 Release
Post by: ephect on September 21, 2012, 01:42:43 PM
Umm nope, settings.ini.

Ok, so I should be using apps.xml? Some settings use the ini and the others use .xml?
Title: Re: FreeICE: Beta 2 Release
Post by: carputer1 on September 21, 2012, 02:33:26 PM
settings is old ..should be removed ,, all in xml now only
Title: Re: FreeICE: Beta 2 Release
Post by: EL CAMINO on September 21, 2012, 03:59:16 PM
AGREED, settings.ini must be completlly changed to settings.xml. easier to work with.

maybe a config tool would also help in managing the settings. :)-

another note on app's

really the apps.xml should now be moved to fi root, not skin folder ,, it was where it is now for testing and a quick fix release..

not sure if it will make B3 release this change ,, but thought i best mention so , when it dose change there's no
moaning lol..

you have now been warned

Its not completely old, U still remove the gps= line from here for it to set/find again.

Which ever way we go, may need another run down on what manages what.
Title: Re: FreeICE: Beta 2 Release
Post by: carputer1 on September 22, 2012, 08:03:55 AM
arh yes need to add a a refresh button for that ,, so the user dose not have to go into ini,,, alot has changed over the last few months,, hopefully alot of rthe good of fi,,
but we do except teething problems still..

the goal is to finally make every thing as easy as possiable ,,
sometimes we win ,, sometimes we don't
Title: Re: FreeICE: Beta 2 Release
Post by: ephect on September 22, 2012, 04:06:56 PM
I won't run anything else, yes the teething issues can be annoying but its a work in progress so no biggy.  Great progress so far.

The reason I was trying to use the app buttons is due to destinator and the skins not displaying correctly when grabbed via the gps auto find. Works fine when not embedded. This has only been since going to XML over ini. I grabbed another skin to test and it does the same thing. I guess how the skin works and how it references destinators ini's in the skin root folder and in the screen size folders. I'm home tomorrow so I can do some more testing.
